02.08.15

This week we take the benchmark and then begin studying about rocks.  Students will have a very short quiz each class period to stress the importance of studying.  In their  notebooks starting on page 69 they will have an example of what the quiz will be.  They need to study each night.

Additionally they need to finish Chapter 3 vocabulary and might have a worksheet to finish.  Please have them check.  It would be helpful if parents checked grades once a week.

As always, please contact us with any questions and concerns.

02.02.2016

The beginning of the 3rd quarter….my how fast it is going.  Beginning Tuesday we will be studying Natural Resources, Rocks, and Plate Tectonics.  This is the time when my students struggle  the most.  Please help them keep up with their work by checking here and the grade book.

The rest of this week will focus on natural resources with a classroom lab on Thursday and Friday along with a vocabulary quiz.

Extra Credit

Students are being offered an extra credit project for 50 points:

Pick one of the following minerals:
quartz
feldspar
calcite
mica
pyrite
hematite
galena
graphite
sulfur

Write a paragraph giving physical and chemical properties of the element. Include a picture, state if it is an ore mineral or a rock-forming mineral, and give as many uses as possible.

The project is due no later than the date of the mid-term exam.

Notebook

If at all possible, it would be great if students were able to pick up a new notebook for the 2nd semester. We have learned that the larger the notebook the better (not pages but length and width).

01.11.16

Welcome

As you know, we are quickly approaching the end of the 1st semester. Last week we gave each of the students (except for 5th block) a progress report so that they would know where they stand. As always some students get behind leading up to the holidays. They were provided with additional copies of assignments to complete if needed. Please let me know if there is anything else we can do to help.

This week we will finish up meteorology and begin working on minerals.

Over the next couple of days we will finalize the midterm exam. A study guide will be available here.
