Chapter 19 Vocabulary

Well, break is almost here. I just wanted to let you know that no matter what anyone says, we will be working all week long. No movies, etc.  
 
We have been studying weather. This week we will measure temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity to predict the weather. If we have time we will also study fronts.  
 
All core subjects are now required to include writing assignments. We will use the information above to write a paragraph on “Describe the weather today.” Grading will include punctuation and spelling.

Chapter 18 Vocabulary

12.07.15

We are presently studying Meteorology. It is covered in Chapter 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21 in the textbook.  
 
There will be a Chapter 17 Vocabulary Quiz on 12.09 and 12.10. The homework for that day will be Chapter 18 vocabulary. I will attach a copy. The Chapter 18 vocabulary Quiz will be on 12/14 and 12/15. 

12.03.15 / 12.04.15 Homework

These are the vocabulary words due for next Monday and Tuesday. 

12.03 – 12.04

There will be an ocean floor quiz on Thursday and Friday. Students have a study guide. 
 
On those days, all previous make-up work is due and there will be an oceanography vocabulary check.  

Important Update for 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 7th blocks

Good Evening 
 
Up until this time, I have tried my best to avoid giving my students homework. However, no matter how we try – we keep falling farther and farther behind.  
 
Therefore, I really have no choice but to start sending work home for students to complete in order to make time in class for labs and other assignments that I consider very important.  
 
The homework will be primarily vocabulary with a few worksheets. I will try to make sure to remind students to write in their agendas. Whenever possible I will put a copy of the assignment on here. In order to encourage students, the homework will be graded for completion. 
 
Please contact me with any suggestions or concerns. And please, check back here whenever you can.

Good Evening 
 
I hope you had a great holiday. This week we start with two odd days. The 1st one will be a classroom density lab that the even day classes did last Tuesday.  
 
Starting this Tuesday, we will finish up oceanography and then go on to Meteorology. Mrs. Simmons and I moved the desks so the students will be working in groups of 4 or more. We are doing this to help students work together hoping that the notebooks will improve. Also there are lots of weather exercises that are best done in groups. This is challenging for the teachers though because students naturally chit-chat during class. Still, I think it is worth the effort. 
 
Right now, I think most of the grades will be classwork with a vocabulary quiz the next week.

Welcome to the beginning of the 2nd Quarter. Report cards go out Tuesday. Please call me if you have any questions or concerns.  
 
This quarter is hard because it is split up by holidays. From Monday until Thanksgiving holiday we will study Oceanography (Chapters 14 and 16 in the textbook.) There will be no test over this area….just a classroom assignment for a quiz grade. 
 
The benchmark tests will be administered Monday and Tuesday. They will be recorded as a quiz grade as required by administration. 
 
We have graded many of the tests from last week. What we have discovered is a direct correlation between the interactive notebook and test grades. Students that did poorly on the notebook also did poorly on the test and visa versa. Please encourage your student to keep his/her notebook up to date and to read it once in a while.
