Computer Class Chat

SOL Testing begins on Tuesday, May 13 and will end on Friday, June 6.

During this time, our class is significantly affected. We lose access to our classroom because the computer lab is used for testing. Also, the schedule is rearranged so that periods do not meet at the normal time and we could go several days in between class sessions.

We may not have as many graded computer assignments during this time. You MUST bring something else to work on during class, especially on days we meet in the science lab. All students have review packets and flashcards for their tests; this is a great time for studying! Below is a very long schedule. It shows when and where we will be meeting.

During our days out of the classroom, we will watch the movie The Glory Road. Although the movie is not computer related, we will be using some of the character stories for a keyboarding assignment when we have access to our computer lab again. Students will choose one character and create a mock social media profile for him/her. We will use text boxes, font features and clip art. We will also reinforce online safety and what type of information should and should not be shared on social media.

There will be a timed typing keyboarding quiz on Thursday/Friday, May 1/2.

Posted by:

For maximum keyboarding speed, students should practice at least 10-15 minutes of typing per night. Longer sessions are beneficial & encouraged.

Goals to reach by the end of the nine weeks:
Grade 6 – 10wpm to 15wpm
Grade 7 - 15wpm to 20wpm

All students need a flash drive and folder for computer class. Supplies were due January 30/31. Due to the snow, this due date was extended to Feb. 3/4.

7th Grade MYP Homework due Wednesday, February 5 IF you did not finish it in class. IB Learner Profile List

The following entry only applies to my 6th Grade MYP Class...
What now?
You have HOMEWORK. It is DUE on Thursday, January 23.
Ok, what is the homework? You MUST complete ALL of the IB MYP Design Cycle Journal. This is a template that I gave you; it should be saved on your flash drive. Throughout the journal, you will discuss each stage of the design cycle and how it applies to your project.
If you do not have a printer at home, you must come see me BEFORE the due date so I can print it for you.

Also, if you did not finish the actual PowerPoint creation during class time, this needs to be finished at home.
Everyone must bring their flash drive to class on Thursday, January 23.

Students are currently working on a Google Maps activity. If they did not complete the worksheets and Word document during class, they must do it for homework. It is due at the start of class Monday, December 16.

I introduced an online typing game (it's free!) called Fingerjig. It was created by a web desinger in the UK. Feel free to take a look at it and see what you think.

The first week of this quarter we were displaced due to benchmark testing. We are getting settled in to our routine now. Look for all grades to be updated by Monday, December 3. We have been working on a few projects that are not always completed in one class period. Thank you so much for your patience.

Hello! I am excited to begin the new school year with lots of energetic students. For computer class, both 6th and 7th grade students will need one pocket folder and one flash drive.
The focus of our course is to learn proper keyboarding technique and use it to help increase our typing speed. We will also use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Spring fever has hit! However, we are still hard at work in Computer class. A reminder to students...your flash drive is so important. You need it in class daily in order to save your work.

We are currently working on our keyboarding skills and technique in 6th grade classes.
7th graders have learned the keys and we are trying to improve our speed. A goal of 20 words per minute will happen with lots of practice at home.

We do not have computer class homework.

VERY IMPORTANT-During SOL testing, we do not have access to our computer lab. We will meet in the science lab or lecture room.
