Power Program Pre-Application

Welcome to Prince George High School. We are located in Central Virginia in Prince George County. Our population consists of 10th through 12 grade county students and those who live on the Fort Lee Military Installation.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

March was the start of class registration for the next academic year. Your son/daughter will be meeting with a counselor to plan the courses needed for graduation requirements. Please speak with your child about the proposed schedule before signing and returning it to guidance. Should you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to speak with your son/daughter’s counselor.

This is also the time of year for the Standards of Learning tests. SOL tests in the other core areas will be given the weeks of May 8-29.  It is critical for the students to achieve a passing score. A passing score will mean a verified credit (provided the student also passes the course work) and possible exemption from the teacher-made end-of-year exam. Students can earn either an advanced or a standard high school diploma after earning a specified number of course and verified credits.
A link is provided on our school webpage (www.pgs.k12.va.us/~pghs) that will take you to the homepage of the Virginia Department of Education. There is information at this site to help your child prepare for the SOL tests and for you as a parent to better understand the tests. Also, feel free to speak with your child’s teachers to get additional information.

A reminder to parents of graduating seniors—At least one parent and the graduating senior must attend a required parents’ meeting on either April 23, April 29, or May 5 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Failure to attend will result in the senior not being allowed to participate in graduation (see related article).

Graduation is scheduled for Saturday, June 7 at the PGHS Athletic Stadium.

Spring also brings a variety of activities to our school division. Please check the school website and marquee periodically to stay abreast of these events. I hope to see you in attendance at as many as your personal calendar will allow!

Thank you Parents/Guardians, for all you do for your children and PGHS.

Together we can make a difference!
